Year 12 Physics Excursion to the Australian synchrotron
Wednesday, September 11, 2024
On the 11th of September, the year 12 Physics students visited the Australian synchrotron in Clayton.
The students participated in a tour of the Australian synchrotron where the presenter explained to them about the production and the use of the synchrotron light in different fields such as, medical imaging and treatment, industry, art and research.
The students were invited into one of the researcher’s laboratories where they had the opportunity to observe the researchers working on their project using the synchrotron light produced at the facility.
The students then completed practical activities on light and matter in the specialised ANSTO VCE lab. These sessions are the only hands-on experience in Australia that allow students to comprehensively explore the key skills learnt in Unit 4 on the interaction of light and matter utilising specialised equipment.
