Year 6 Excursion to the MCG
Friday, May 24, 2024
On Monday May 21st, our Year 6 students (along with 3 teachers and 2 parent helpers) went on a tour of the MCG. Our day began with an amazing talk by recent Olympian, Reba Stewart who represented Australia in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Reba is 23 years old, and she had prepared a slideshow for us, to talk us through how she got into taekwondo (she went along with her brother when she was 12), and how she ended up training her hardest to be as good as she could be. We were amazed and inspired by her persistence and perseverance, particularly training in her loungeroom during COVID, and continuing to train despite some losses and setbacks along the way.
We got to explore the MCG Sports Museum, where we saw lots of sports memorabilia. This was incredible for the many sports fans among us.
A highlight of the Sports Museum, was the interactive ‘Game On’ area where we could try bouldering on a giant Sherrin football, shooting basketballs, and kicking goals.
Our tours of the MCG were led by very knowledgeable tour guides. We were lucky enough to get to see the players’ locker rooms, the media press conference room, the radio commentators boxes, the MCC members only area, the players’ warm up rooms, and a special moment for many – going right down to the grass on the MCG!
A wonderful day had by all!
