Student Reflection
The Year 6 student went to the NGV. We saw a lot of old art from artists we have heard of, like Picasso and Monet. We went into a dark room to experience an art installation. The installation was made of white engine parts and motors, and the shapes looked like an explosion of aliens and animals. It was so creative. We saw lots of religious art, and different versions of Mary and baby Jesus. My group noticed that in art, after Jesus was born, Mary had a star on her arm in the art works which was interesting. We went to the Japanese art area and I really liked a painting of a really old fish where you could see the skeleton of the fish, including the bones inside. We saw a moon sculpture made by Korean artist which I really liked too. For many of us it was our first time going to the art gallery, and we found it really interesting.

What a day- we went to the NGV to see all sorts of art. First we sat down outside in the sunshine for snack, then we walked around to explore the gallery. Highlights for me were when my group saw Picasso’s artwork called The Weeping Woman. I liked it because it’s abstract and I’ve heard of Picasso but never seen his artwork in real life. Another activity we did was when one person described a painting and the other person had to try to draw it. It was fun because you had to use your imagination. I liked the colourful stained glass ceiling in the lounge area. It was amazing.
